Jain Parva Tithi November 2028

November 2028 has 13 parva tithis in Ujjain. The next is Chaudas (Shukla Chaturdashi) on 1 November 2028. A day is a parva tithi when that tithi is running at sunrise. When a parva tithi starts and ends between two sunrises, it is kept on the day before.

What are the parva tithis?

Jain tradition marks five tithis in each fortnight as parva tithis: Beej (2nd), Pancham (5th), Atham (8th), Agiyaras (11th) and Chaudas (14th). With Punam (full moon) and Amas (new moon) they make twelve a month.

On these days observant Jains avoid green vegetables and fruit, and many keep Ayambil, Ekasana or a full Upvas. Chaudas is the day of Pakkhi Pratikraman, the fortnightly confession.

When a parva tithi is dropped (it begins and ends between two sunrises), it is kept on the day before. When a tithi covers two sunrises, this page shows the first day; some gachchhas keep the second, so follow your sangh's panchang where it differs.

Frequently asked questions

Which tithis are Jain fasting days?

Beej, Pancham, Atham, Agiyaras and Chaudas of both fortnights, and Punam and Amas. Atham and Chaudas are the most widely kept.

Why are green vegetables avoided on parva tithis?

Green vegetables hold many living beings (ekendriya jivas). Leaving them out on parva tithis is a way of practising ahimsa more strictly on the days set aside for it.

About This Content

Jain festival and parva tithi dates are calculated by the Vedic Tithi engine from the tithi at sunrise (udaya tithi) at your location; Paryushan and Samvatsari keep India's date. Our automated tests compare these dates with a leading published panchang for New Delhi, New York and Vancouver. Gachchhas and sanghs sometimes differ by a day, so follow your own sangh's announcement where it differs. If you spot an error, tell us and we will correct it.
