Shloka of the Day
Wednesday, 21 Octoberआरुरुक्षोर्मुनेर्योगं कर्म कारणमुच्यते । योगारूढस्य तस्यैव शमः कारणमुच्यते ॥
— Bhagavad Gita 6.3
How the day's shloka is chosen
Each day's shloka comes from the Bhagavad Gita (chapters 2 to 18) and about 45 Sanskrit stotrams. The day's theme comes from its tithi at sunrise and lunar month first, the first match in this order:
- Chaitra Shukla Navami (Rama Navami): Rama
- Chaitra and Ashwina Shukla Pratipada to Navami (Navratri): Devi
- Ekadashi: Krishna and Vishnu
- Chaturthi: Ganesha
- Trayodashi (Pradosh) and Krishna Chaturdashi (Masik Shivaratri): Shiva
- Purnima: Vishnu and Lakshmi
Other days follow the weekday:
- Sunday: Surya
- Monday: Shiva
- Tuesday: Hanuman
- Wednesday: Ganesha and Krishna
- Thursday: Krishna and Vishnu
- Friday: Devi and Lakshmi
- Saturday: Hanuman and Rama
Everyone whose day has the same theme reads the same verse on the same date.
