About Gochar, Vakri and Asta
Gochar (transit) is the movement of the planets through the twelve signs. In Vedic astrology a transit is read from your Moon sign (Janma Rashi): the house a planet passes through, counted from the Moon, gives its results for that period.
A planet is Vakri (retrograde) when, seen from the Earth, it appears to move backwards. Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter and Saturn do this regularly. Rahu and Ketu always move backwards, and the Sun and Moon never do.
A planet is Asta (combust) when it is so close to the Sun that it is lost in its glare. Guru and Shukra Asta matter most: no weddings, griha pravesh or upanayana are held while they are set.
