About This Stotram
Overview
The Rahu Graha Pancharatna Stotram is a Sanskrit stotram of five verses dedicated to Rahu, one of the Navagrahas (nine celestial bodies) in Vedic astrology. The name "Pancharatna" (five gems) indicates that the five verses are considered concentrated and potent for propitiating Rahu. What is the historical and traditional background?
Graha stotras — hymns dedicated to individual planetary deities — form a recognized category within Sanskrit devotional literature and are used alongside Vedic astrological practice. The Pancharatna format, organizing praise into five verses, is a common compositional choice in this genre. Rahu, as the ascending lunar node, has been addressed through dedicated hymns in the Puranic and post-Puranic periods. The specific author and date of composition for this stotram are not recorded; it belongs to the later tradition of Graha devotional literature compiled by unknown scholars and devotees.
