What is the historical and traditional background?
Pancharatna stotrams follow a literary convention in Sanskrit devotional literature where five selected verses offer concentrated praise of a deity. The Graha stotram tradition developed during the medieval period as Vedic astrology became more integrated with devotional practice, creating a body of hymns for each of the Navagrahas.
