About This Stotram
Overview
The Ekatmata Stotram is a Sanskrit hymn that affirms the unity of existence — the oneness of Paramatma (the supreme self, described as Sat-Chit-Ananda) with all creation, including the natural world, the five elements, celestial bodies, and the land of Bharat. The hymn invokes the well-being of each of these dimensions in turn and includes a verse honoring Bharat Mata (Mother India), giving the text both a philosophical and a cultural-national dimension. It belongs to a modern Sanskrit devotional compilation.
What are the benefits of chanting Ekatmata Stotram?
- Cultivation of a sense of unity and interconnectedness
- Invocation of universal well-being and auspiciousness
- Fostering devotion to India as a sacred land
- Meditation on the relationship between the individual soul and the supreme self
When is the best time to recite this?
The Ekatmata Stotram is suited to morning or evening recitation. It is particularly appropriate on national occasions, festivals, and during events that emphasize collective identity or universal well-being.
What is the historical and traditional background?
The inclusion of "Bharat Mata" as a devotional subject indicates that the Ekatmata Stotram was composed during or after the Indian independence movement (19th–20th century CE), when devotional hymns were adapted to express both spiritual and national consciousness. The text draws on Advaita Vedanta concepts (Paramatma, Sat-Chit-Ananda) while extending them to encompass the natural world and the nation. The author is unknown. The stotram circulates in Sanskrit collections that blend Vedic philosophical vocabulary with modern devotional sentiments.
