About This Stotram
Overview
The Runa Vimochana Angaraka Stotram is a Sanskrit hymn of 13 verses dedicated to Angaraka (also known as Mangala or Kuja), the Vedic planetary deity identified with Mars. Its primary purpose is the removal of debts (runa vimochana), both financial and karmic, by propitiating the deity associated with Mars in the Vedic astrological tradition.
What are the benefits of chanting Runa Vimochana Angaraka Stotram?
- Relief from accumulated debts and financial burdens
- Removal of obstacles caused by an afflicted Mars in the natal chart
- Attainment of prosperity and material stability
- Cultivation of focus and discipline through regular recitation
When is the best time to recite this?
Tuesday, the day associated with Angaraka, is the preferred day for recitation, particularly during the Mars hora. It may also be recited during the waxing lunar phase, which is considered auspicious for financial matters in the Vedic tradition.
What is the historical and traditional background?
The stotram employs a Puranic narrative structure, presenting Brahma as the source who reveals the hymn to Skanda for the benefit of those afflicted by debt. This format is consistent with graha-stotra literature that developed during the Puranic and medieval periods of Sanskrit devotional writing. The authorship is unknown and the exact source text has not been identified, which is common for compositions in this genre. The stotram has been transmitted through oral tradition and devotional anthologies.
