About This Stotram

Overview

The Durga Pancha Ratnam (Five Jewels of Durga) is a Sanskrit stotram of five verses dedicated to Goddess Durga. Each verse addresses her as the sovereign of all (Sarveshvari) and giver of liberation (Mokshadatri), repeating the refrain "protect me, O Mother." The text belongs to the Shakta tradition and is used as a concise devotional hymn in Durga worship.

What are the benefits of chanting Durga Pancha Ratnam?

  • Seeking protection from all evils and adversity
  • Invoking the Goddess's grace for liberation (moksha)
  • Cultivating steady devotion through a brief, manageable hymn
  • Suitable as a daily prayer for those who cannot recite longer texts

When is the best time to recite this?

The stotram is recited in the morning or evening, and is particularly appropriate during Navaratri and Durga Puja. It can be recited on any day as a short invocatory prayer to Goddess Durga.

What is the historical and traditional background?

The Durga Pancha Ratnam is a standalone Sanskrit stotram of unknown authorship. Its composition date is uncertain; it circulates within the wider corpus of Durga devotional literature rather than being attributed to a specific Purana or Tantra. The use of the "Pancha Ratnam" (five jewels) naming convention for five-verse stotrams is a recognized form in Sanskrit hymnology, applied to various deities. The text's availability in multiple Indian scripts indicates its adoption across regional devotional traditions.
