About This Stotram

Overview

The Daridrya Dahana Ganapati Stotram is a Sanskrit hymn dedicated to Lord Ganapati (Ganesha) with the specific purpose indicated by its name: daridrya (poverty) dahana (burning away). The text invokes Ganapati in his role as the remover of obstacles and asks him to eliminate material lack and bring prosperity.

What are the benefits of chanting Daridrya Dahana Ganapati Stotram?

  • Recitation is traditionally associated with relief from financial hardship and material scarcity.
  • The hymn invokes Ganapati as Vighnaharta (remover of obstacles), which encompasses both material and spiritual impediments.
  • Regular chanting is held to support auspicious beginnings and positive outcomes in new ventures.
  • The text is used as a focused prayer for prosperity within the Ganapatya devotional tradition.
  • Chanting on Thursdays or during Ganesh Chaturthi is considered especially meritorious.

When is the best time to recite this?

Thursdays are traditionally observed as auspicious for Ganapati worship. Ganesh Chaturthi and periods of financial difficulty are specific occasions when this stotram is commonly recited. Morning recitation as part of a daily devotional routine is also practiced.

What is the historical and traditional background?

The Daridrya Dahana Ganapati Stotram does not have a traceable origin in a specific ancient Purana or Tantra, and its author is unknown. It belongs to the category of later devotional compositions — hymns composed by unknown devotees or scholars within the Puranic and Tantric periods to address specific needs through divine invocation. Such specialized stotrams became common from the medieval period onward within the Ganapatya tradition. The text circulates in collections of Ganapati hymns and is used independently in devotional practice.
