Historical and traditional background
Annamacharya (1408–1503 CE) was a Telugu saint-composer and one of the earliest known prolific composers in Pañcaratra Vaishnavism. He composed over 32,000 Sankeertanas dedicated to Lord Venkateswara of Tirumala and other Vaishnava deities. His compositions were inscribed on copper plates and preserved at the Tirumala temple during the Vijayanagara period. Shodasa Kalanidhiki reflects his ability to integrate ritual worship structures such as the sixteen offerings into devotional song.
