Historical and traditional background
Annamacharya (1408–1503 CE) was a Tamil Nadu-born Telugu saint-composer who lived during the Vijayanagara Empire and composed over 32,000 Sankeertanas. He is regarded as the first known prolific composer in Telugu and a foundational figure in Carnatic music. Muddugaare Yasoda is among his compositions focused on the Puranic narratives of Lord Krishna rather than his usual subject, Lord Venkateswara of Tirumala. His works were preserved on copper plates and are sung in temples and homes across South India to this day.
