Historical and traditional background

Annamacharya composed over 32,000 Telugu keerthanas during his service at the Tirumala temple in the 15th century. This keerthana is set to Raga Amrutavarshini and Tala Adi. It belongs to his body of philosophical keerthanas that convey Vaishnava theology through song, emphasising namabhakti (devotion through the name) as the path to liberation.
