Overview
Narayaniyam Dashaka 84 is the eighty-fourth ten-verse section of the Narayaniyam, composed by Melpathur Narayana Bhattathiri in the 16th century CE. This dashaka, titled "Samantapanchaka Tirthayatra — Bandhumitradi Samagamam" (Pilgrimage to Samantapanchaka and Reunion with Relatives and Friends), narrates Krishna's pilgrimage to the sacred site of Samantapanchaka and his subsequent meeting with family and friends. The section draws from the Srimad Bhagavatam's account of events surrounding the Kurukshetra War.

What is the historical and traditional background?
Melpathur Narayana Bhattathiri (c. 1560–1646 CE) composed the full Narayaniyam at the Guruvayur temple in Kerala, condensing the entire Srimad Bhagavatam into 1,036 verses across 100 dashakas. Dashaka 84 reflects the later portions of the Bhagavatam, which narrate episodes from the Mahabharata period of Krishna's life. Samantapanchaka is identified in tradition with the Kurukshetra battlefield and is considered a sacred pilgrimage site. The Narayaniyam as a whole is recited daily at the Guruvayur temple and is a central text of Kerala's Vaishnava literary tradition.
