About This Stotram

Overview

Shri Bajrang Baan is a Hindi devotional hymn dedicated to Lord Hanuman, composed in the tradition of Vaishnava bhakti poetry. The word "baan" (arrow) in the title conveys the text's intent as a direct, focused invocation for protection and strength. The verses narrate Hanuman's heroic qualities and ask for his intervention against obstacles and harmful forces. It is widely recited in North India alongside the Hanuman Chalisa and belongs to the medieval Hindi devotional literary tradition.

What are the benefits of chanting Shri Bajrang Baan?

  • Invokes Hanuman's protection against negative influences and harmful forces
  • Removal of obstacles in personal, professional, and spiritual life
  • Grants mental strength, courage, and confidence according to traditional accounts
  • Recited for fulfillment of specific desires when other efforts have not succeeded

When is the best time to recite this?

Tuesdays and Saturdays, which are dedicated to Hanuman, are the most commonly recommended days. It is also recited on Hanuman Jayanti and during times of personal distress or fear. Morning and evening recitation are both considered appropriate.

What is the historical and traditional background?

The Bajrang Baan has no confirmed individual author; it is generally dated to the medieval or early modern period and attributed to the bhakti tradition that produced related Hanuman devotional texts. The composition style — rhyming Hindi verse with refrain structures — is consistent with the vernacular devotional poetry that became widespread from around the 14th to 17th centuries CE. The text is especially prominent in North India and is recited in Hanuman temples alongside the Hanuman Chalisa. Traditional guidance often recommends reciting it with caution and genuine devotional intent, reflecting its reputation as a particularly direct form of invocation.
