About This Stotram

Overview

The Sankata Nashana Ganesha Stotram is a Sanskrit hymn of eight verses traditionally attributed to the sage Narada, as indicated by the opening "Narada uvacha" (Narada said). It honors Lord Ganesha in his role as "Sankata Nashana," the destroyer of calamities, and enumerates eight forms of Ganesha to invoke comprehensive protection and blessings. The text belongs to the Ganapatya devotional tradition.

Morning and evening recitation are both appropriate. Ganesha Chaturthi and Sankashti Chaturthi tithis are specifically auspicious for this stotram. It is also recited before beginning new undertakings when Ganesha's blessing is sought for removal of obstacles.

What is the historical and traditional background?

The stotram is attributed to Narada, a rishi who appears throughout Puranic literature as a teacher and messenger.
