Each Panchang day (sunrise to the next sunrise) at your location is checked against the rules below, the same rules Drik Panchang's dates follow. Only the tithi, nakshatra and yoga at sunrise and the ones after them count. The muhurat is the first stretch of at least 5 minutes in which every rule holds, in your local time.
The Moon must be in Rohini, Mrigashira, Magha, Uttara Phalguni, Hasta, Swati, Anuradha, Mula, Uttara Ashadha, Uttara Bhadrapada or Revati, but not in the Gandanta parts: the first quarter of Magha and Mula and the last of Revati.
The 9 inauspicious yogas are excluded (Vishkumbha, Atiganda, Shula, Ganda, Vyaghata, Vajra, Vyatipata, Parigha, Vaidhriti), and the karanas Vishti (Bhadra), Shakuni, Chatushpada, Naga and Kimstughna. The tithi and the weekday are not restricted.
No muhurat while the Sun is in Karka, Simha, Kanya, Dhanu or Meena, during Chaturmas (Devshayani Ekadashi to Prabodhini Ekadashi), or in an Adhika month.
No muhurat while Guru (Jupiter) or Shukra (Venus) is Asta (not visible near the Sun, which depends on your location), nor in the 3 days before it sets and after it rises again.
Vivah Muhurat is a specific date and time considered auspicious for a Hindu wedding ceremony. It is determined using the Panchang (Hindu almanac) by checking the nakshatra, yoga and karana, the solar month, Chaturmas, and whether Jupiter and Venus are visible on that day.
There are 60 auspicious Vivah Muhurat dates in 2026 for New Delhi, in February, March, April, May, June, July, November and December. The dates depend on the location: Jupiter and Venus set and rise on different days in different places.

The muhurat window is the ideal time to begin the ceremony — specifically for the Saat Pheras (seven rounds) or the key ritual of your wedding. The full ceremony can continue beyond the window.
Technically yes, but most Hindu families prefer to begin the core rituals within the muhurat window. If the window is short, it's common to start slightly early and ensure the main ritual falls within the time.
