How are Graha Pravesh Muhurat Dates Calculated?

Each Panchang day (sunrise to the next sunrise) at your location is checked against the rules below, the same rules Drik Panchang's dates follow. Only the tithi, nakshatra and yoga at sunrise and the ones after them count. The muhurat is the first stretch of at least 5 minutes in which every rule holds, in your local time.

The Moon must be in Rohini, Mrigashira, Uttara Phalguni, Chitra, Anuradha, Uttara Ashadha, Uttara Bhadrapada or Revati.

☀️ Tithi

Shukla Dwitiya, Tritiya, Panchami, Saptami, Dashami, Ekadashi, Trayodashi and Krishna Pratipada, Dwitiya, Tritiya, Panchami, Saptami, Dashami, Ekadashi.

📅 Weekday and month

Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday or Saturday, in the lunar months Vaishakha, Jyeshtha, Kartika, Margashirsha, Magha or Phalguna (never an Adhika month).

🪐 Guru and Shukra

No muhurat while Guru (Jupiter) or Shukra (Venus) is Asta (not visible near the Sun, which depends on your location), nor in the 3 days before it sets and after it rises again.

What is Graha Pravesh?

Graha Pravesh is the Hindu ritual of entering a new home for the first time. It includes a puja to bless the home and is traditionally done on an auspicious date before moving in.

Is Graha Pravesh muhurat needed for a rented home too?

Traditionally, the full Graha Pravesh ceremony is done for a newly purchased or newly constructed home. For a rented home, a simpler puja or grah shanti is usually done instead.

Which months have Graha Pravesh muhurats in 2026?

Graha Pravesh is done only in the lunar months Vaishakha, Jyeshtha, Kartika, Margashirsha, Magha and Phalguna, never in an Adhika month or while Jupiter or Venus is Asta. In 2026 that gives 37 dates for New Delhi, in February, March, April, May, June, July, November and December.

Does the whole family need to be present?

Ideally yes — especially the head of the household. The ceremony involves entering the home together as a family for the first time. At minimum, the couple or primary family members should be present.

Can Graha Pravesh be done if the construction is not fully complete?

It is best to complete the basic structure before Graha Pravesh. If minor work like painting or fixtures is still pending, most pandits allow the ceremony to proceed. Major structural work should be done first.

What is the difference between Graha Pravesh and Vastu Puja?

Vastu Puja is done to clear any Vastu doshas in the land or structure — it can be done at any stage of construction. Graha Pravesh is a one-time entry ceremony done when you move in. They can be done together or separately.
